2012 Laramie County Spelling Bee Champions

The English Language Arts Office would like to announce the 2012 Laramie County Spelling Bee Champions:

First Place

Marcis Bravo, 6th Grade at Pioneer Park Elementary with ichnolite

Second Place

Brandon Shank, 6th Grade at Hebard Elementary with vicinage

Third Place

Anna Rankl, 6th Grade at Afflerbach Elementary with apophysis

Congratulations on all of your hard work. All five spellers will advance to the State Spelling Bee on March 17th in Casper.

Young Authors 2012

There will be no Young Authors Competition for the 2011-2012 school year. If you have any questions please feel free to contact the Language Arts Office or Cassandra Tolman, the Laramie County Reading Council President, at TolmanC@laramie1.org.

Young Authors is sponsored through the Wyoming State Reading Council. A link to their website is included on the Young Authors section of the Elementary Language Arts Webpage.

Language Arts

The Kindergarten and First Grade District Assessments for reading and writing for the 2011-2012 school year will be, The Measurement of Academic Progress. (MAP) All First Grade teachers will need to also administer the following three assessments for CLIP placement.

The Second through Sixth Grade Assessments have not changed. The Measurement of Academic Progress (MAP) protocol is now being utilized for reading and writing.

The Writing Day Assessment is not required by the District; however, the Assessment tool may be accessed from the website, if your school wishes to continue to incorporate the Assessment.
